Armenia

Acted has been active in Armenia since October 2020, after the outbreak of the 2020 Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. With a central office in Yerevan, Acted implements projects countrywide focusing on the emergency response and long-term resilience of the most vulnerable conflict-affected population.

Mission context

In the aftermath of the 2020 Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, approximately 90,000 persons from the conflict area were displaced. As of February 2022, around 26,000 of them currently reside in different regions of Armenia and are either hosted privately or accommodated in collective shelters. A significant number of the arrivals from Nagorno-Karabakh are not able to return safely – even with a ceasefire in place – as residents of territories under the control of Azerbaijan.

With its sister organization IMPACT Initiatives, Acted provides multi-sectoral assistance in partnership with local and international organizations. Acted’s strategy in Armenia focuses on supporting long-term resilience to shocks while promoting economic growth for prone-to-risk communities.

Acted’s approach in Armenia looks beyond the immediate humanitarian response towards longer-term livelihoods and sustainable development opportunities via innovative evidence-based solutions. In line with the Acted 3 Zero programmatic strategies, in Armenia Acted endeavors to enhance access to basic services, expand inclusive economic opportunities, respond to humanitarian needs, and support collaborative and resilient ecosystem management.

Acted has well-established partnerships with key national stakeholders in the country (e.g., Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs, Unified Social Service) built during the implementation of completed and ongoing projects.
